You’re in a new and exciting time in your life. You’ve now got this adorable, precious little soul and are ready to document his or her first memories in photographs. We at Amber Star Photography want to make this a joyous experience for you and your family. We know how nerve-racking picture day is, especially when you’re running on little, to no, sleep. To help you out with this process, we’ve compiled a list of preparation tips to ease some of your stress. If you have any questions at all, feel free to contact me at info@AmberStarPhotography.com and we can get you the answers you’re looking for.
What to Bring
Honestly, you won't need to bring much! However, we suggest that you take a look at this list and have these items readily available in case we need them during your session. I always suggest packing the essential checklist items to have a smooth newborn session.
We try to keep our sessions pretty basic and focused in on your new little bundle of joy and therefore take a minimalistic approach to prop usage. I provide everything for your newborn session. I have backdrops, headbands, bonnets, beds, props, I have it all!
To ensure that your baby is happy and calm during the session, I highly suggest bringing a Soothie Pacifier. Also be sure to have fresh bottle -- if your child is currently using a bottle -- and diapers ready to go. These are the top items I have my parents bring to their session.
What to Wear
Newborns are not very patient when it comes to outfit changes. I prefer to take most of the photos with the baby wrapped or completely in the nude. In our opinion, babies photograph best this way and they will also cooperate longer if we are not constantly changing their outfits.
If you are going to be in photos with your child, I have serval gowns for my new moms to borrow during their session. My client wardrobe consists of mainly ivory and cream tones. This is what I believe looks best on my dream lighting wall. Of course, if you prefer your own dress or some color, you are always welcome to bring in your own dress. For dads and boys, I suggest a fitted white shirt and jeans. For my girls that come in, I have plenty of dresses for them to choose from. For mommies, we suggest keeping jewelry to a minimum, as babies like to grab hold of these items.
If you have any wardrobe questions, please contact us. We’d be more than happy to help. Thanks for reading and we look forward to your session!
